Day trips from Playa del Inglés

Roque Nublo, Puerto de Mogán, Teror and Las Palmas: what to see on four classic day trips in Gran Canaria, with facts from the official tourism site.

Four classic day trips from the south of Gran Canaria, with what the official tourism site says about each.

Roque Nublo

A natural monument: a rock of almost ninety metres from its base, standing 1,813 metres above sea level, in the Nublo Rural Park and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The short walk to the rock leaves from the car park at La Degollada de La Goleta, 1.5 km each way.

Access is now regulated. The official page says you must reserve in advance at reservasroquenublo.com, with a maximum of 60 visitors per hour, open from 10:00 to 17:00. Shuttle buses run every 30 minutes. Check the current rules before you go.

Puerto de Mogán

A fishing village known as the “little Venice of the Canary Islands”, with canals, bridges and bougainvillea. It has a small, calm beach protected by a breakwater, with fine sand. The official site mentions a Friday market with around 500 stalls, and activities such as kayaking, diving and paddle surfing.

By bus, Global line 1 connects Las Palmas with Puerto de Mogán and serves Playa del Inglés on the way. See our guide to getting around.

Teror

One of the prettiest villages on the island, in the central-east, at 543 metres. The Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Pino (construction began in 1767) is a national monument. Every Sunday from 08:00 to 14:00 a street market surrounds the basilica, with local products, traditional pastries and handcrafts.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

In the capital, Vegueta is the oldest neighbourhood, with narrow cobbled streets. The official site highlights the Cathedral of Santa Ana, whose roof you can climb for a view over the old town, the Casa de Colón museum, the Museo Canario, the CAAM (Atlantic Centre of Modern Art) and the Vegueta Market.

Global lines 30 and 50 connect Las Palmas with Playa del Inglés and Faro de Maspalomas.
