What is the Yumbo Centre in Playa del Inglés?

The Yumbo Centre explained with facts from the official Gran Canaria tourism site: when it opened, why it matters for LGBTQ+ travellers, Pride and how to get there.

The Yumbo Centre (also written Yumbo Centrum) is a shopping centre in Playa del Inglés, and the best-known address for LGBTQ+ nightlife in Gran Canaria.

What it is

According to the official Gran Canaria tourism site, the Yumbo Centre opened in the 1980s and over the years became the epicentre of LGBTQ+ nightlife on the island. It has open-air terraces, live shows with drag queens, bars and discos. The same site’s beach page lists the Yumbo Shopping Centre among the attractions near Playa del Inglés beach.

Pride and Winter Pride

The Yumbo Centre is the main venue of Maspalomas Pride, and the official site says over 200,000 people pass through Yumbo during the event. It is also one of the venues of Winter Pride Maspalomas, together with the Hotel Abora Catarina. See our calendar of gay events in Gran Canaria.

Getting there
